Jonesboro Wildlife Trapper Tip of the Month: Removing an Animal From the Basement
Rat in the basement
The basement is a peaceful and safe place and a secure shelter for many animals that keep them safe from their predators. If you have rats in the basement, they are going to chew everything that is available to them. To get rid of rats, you have to purchase a snap trap and use peanut butter to trap the rats. Use this trap at night, and do not forget to see the result in the early morning. Before placing the traps, do not forget to seal all the holes within the basement, so they will not get any way to get out of the basement. Do not forget to clean the basement when they all get died or trapped. It is important to clean the basement so you can get rid of the rat odor and waste because they use their waste/dropping to communicate with others, and this odor can invite the other rats within your basement. You can use water and bleach mixture to wash the area and to eliminate the rat odor.
Snake in the basement
If your basement has cracks, then this is the ideal place for the snakes to get into your basement. They can even get into the basement through broken doors or windows; they just need a small hole, later they can adjust their body to get in the basement.
Before getting rid of the snake, close all the entry points that were the reason for their entry, like holes, long grass, etc. you can use a snake trap to get rid of them. Once they get into the trap, use gloves to remove them from your basement. Do not forget to remove the odor that can be an invitation to other small insects.
Bat in the basement
Once they get into the basement, they will find it difficult to get out of this place. You can use net traps to trap them, and now it’s up to you either you kill them or release them from the net trap. Remove their poops because small insects love to eat them. Remove the odor by use of spray or homemade solution.
Raccoon in the basement
If you find a raccoon into your basement, then check out all the entry points and seals them properly. They may be getting attracted to the food that you have placed for your pets. They usually like to live on the attic, so if you find a raccoon into the basement, check out their availability at the attic. They may have family over there. You can use traps to get rid of them.
You may found other animals that we have not described like a squirrel, mice, and many more; the major reason for their availability into the basement is they have found an entry point like any crack or hole; that are why they got the chance to get into your basement. Seal all the open places and use the trap to get rid of these animals.
